WAIVPAY is excited to be an Official Event Partner of the Melbourne Awards 2022. Celebrating the 20th year of the Melbourne Awards, WAIVPAY will be presenting two awards: The Aboriginal Melbourne Ganbu Guljin Award which recognises projects and initiatives that impact and celebrate the lives of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and the LGTBIQ+ Award which recognises and celebrates organisations and individuals who support and promote the LGBTIQ+ community.

Djirri Djirri - Melbourne Awards Winner

The Aboriginal Melbourne- Ganbu Guljin Award was given to Djirri Djirri, the only Wurundjeri female dance group, and Traditional Custodians of Narrm (Melbourne). All members are connected by blood, through one woman, Annie Borate, William Barak's sister. They create dances to honour their Liwik (Ancestors), Kerr-up-non (Family), Biik (Country) and animals.

Transfamily Melbourne Awards Winner

The LGTBIQ+ Award was given to Transfamaily. A peer support group for family, partners, friends, and loved ones of trans and gender diverse (TGD) people. Run by a committee of nine passionate volunteers, who all lived with experience, Transfamily provides a warm and understanding environment for all people wanting to share experiences, ask questions, seek advice, and support each other via monthly meetings around Melbourne.
